The Nintendo Switch 2 has just came out and although some are still skeptical about the price and Nintendo decisions about the launch of the console, it already has some top release games so far. Mario Kart World launch with the Switch 2 being a great game in it’s own right, but the new game Donkey Kong Bananza seems to be getting critical acclaim so far. With it fun gameplay, interesting levels and character designs.
Gameplay

Donkey Kong Bananza gameplay is similar to Super Mario Odyssey. However, Donkey Kong Bananza is all about destruction. Donkey Kong has the ability to smash his surrounding environments and tear down a chuck of the terrain to use as a weapon. The gameplay also features transformation sequences, which is called banana transformations. DK can transform into different creatures depending on the area to progress through the game secret areas. However, these powers uses “bananergy” which can be consume if used too much. The game also uses the skill tree mechanic that allow DK to learn new move throughout the game.

The game has a co-op feature that allows a person to control younger Pauline when going to different areas. It also supports Gameshare, which can allow players using two different consoles to play the game using one copy. If you’re an artist, use can use the artist mode, which has the players sculpt anything of their liking.
Development/Sells

Donkey Kong Bananza was originally going to made for the Nintendo Switch however, it was later moved to the Switch 2 due to the game running poorly on the original Switch. Development for the Switch 2 started in 2021, EPD programmers that develop Super Mario Odyssey started conducting experiments with voxel technology. Using voxel, they used this technology to determine how Donkey Kong would smash certain terrains in the game. The smashing mechanic was tested on a Goomba with long arms first and the team found it very fun for the Goomba to smash anything in it path.

The team found that this mechanic would fit Donkey Kong character a lot more than Mario leading Donkey Kong to be the main character in the game. Utilizing this destructive mechanic, the team was able to find the gameplay for Donkey Kong Bananza and took inspiration from previous games from the Donkey Kong series specifically Donkey Kong Country.
According Nintendo Life, Donkey Kong Bananza is the best selling title on the Nintendo Switch 2 currently in the UK and has sold more than Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, but has sold less than Super Mario Odyssey. This could be due to the Nintendo Switch 2 price compare to the Nintendo Switch during launch, which downgrades the sales for the game. BUT what do you think?? Will you buy the Nintendo Switch 2 for this game? Let me know in the comments!!
