Nintendo has just announced a new Star Fox game for the Nintendo Switch 2. Before the announcement, there was a lot of discussion about there being a new game due to the Star Fox character being feature in the Mario Galaxy movie that came out in April. Now with the trailer being out now, let take a dive at what we know so far about the game.
Gameplay
Gameplay is very similar to Star Fox 64 with the player flying the Arwing through different levels using a number of weapons to go through enemies and obstacles. Each action the player does in these levels will alter the progression of the story with three routes being the Easy path, Normal path and the Hard path including a challenge mode that will feature unique objectives. Each level will have more focus cinematics cut scenes that will have fully voice dialogue. There is a multiplayer mode where the players choose to be one of the characters in the Star Fox team or Star Wolf. The game will also support gamechat, which allows for general video chat amongst family and friends. The gamechat will have a filter webcam that allows the player to be one of the Star Fox characters. Gameshare is also available allowing original Switch user to play.
Release
The game was announced on the Nintendo Direct on May 6 showcasing a 15 minute cinematics cutscene of the Star Fox team entering Corneria. The character designs received mixed reactions as some felt that some of the designs looked weird especially Falco. However, some were fine with the new design saying they will get used to it along the way. Takaya Imamura, the original character designer for Star Fox stated “no matter what style or arrangement they take on, the moment these four come together, they’re instantly recognized as Star Fox” This Star Fox will be remake of Star Fox 64, which was a reboot of the original series, which was previous reimagined in Star Fox Zero. Release date will be June 25, 2026 worldwide and South Korea release date will be in July 2, 2026.
