The Nintendo Switch 2.0

The Nintendo Switch has been a powerhouse Nintendo console that has ushered in amazing games. From Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and more, Nintendo has had a great run with the Nintendo Switch however, how do they continue that success? Well, that where the Nintendo Switch 2 comes in. The Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be the successor to the Nintendo Switch that was introduced in January 16 of this year. Here’s what we know so far from just the teaser trailer and other additional information.

The Nintendo Switch 2

Specifications

The Nintendo Switch 2 specs are still a subject from rumors as Nintendo has not yet released information about the console itself. According to Bloomberg, it is believe that the Nintendo Switch 2 screen will be an 8-inch LCD screen, which is a stark contrast to the OLED Switch screen, which Nintendo released in October 2021. With the OLED model, the build in screen is enhanced allowing for better speakers and more internal storage space. Also, according to Zuby-Tech who had leaked information about some Specs is that the CPU for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be eight-core arm cortex A78C, this will allow more advanced security features and large scalable resolution for the UI. According to Eurogamer, the GPU will utilize the Nvidia T239 Ampere chip. This chip will allow smooth immersive for enhanced graphic inside the game and if possible will use ray tracing capabilities  that will allow the 3D graphics items or characters design to look more realistic.

Nintendo Switch 2’s Ram according to Zuby-Tech will feature 12GB of LPDDRS of ram with the additional storage of ram going up to 256GB. If this is true, then this will be a huge jump for the Switch 2 as the Switch only allows up to 4GB of ram inside the console. The console is also rumor to have two internal fans that allow for the console to not overheat with additional USB-C ports that allow possibly for other controllers to be plugged in. The only information that we don’t know is about the battery life for the console, but I assume it going to last longer than the original Switch as the design for the Nintendo Switch 2 is slightly bigger than the original Switch.

Games

From the trailer, Nintendo has stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have backward compatibility with the Original Nintendo Switch. This means that the Switch 2 can play Nintendo Switch games however, if it’s exclusively for the Switch 2 then you will need a Switch 2 to play that specific game. Nintendo hasn’t announced any exclusive games for the Switch 2 yet however, the most obvious clue that we see in the teaser trailer is the Mario Kart game. This could definitely be a hint that they’ll be a Mario Kart 9 in the horizon and could also be a launch title for the console. Here’s a list of games that could possibly be in development for the Switch 2 in the near future:

Switch 2 will be Backward Compatible with the original Switch
  • New Smash Bros?
  • New Mario Party?
  • Animal Crossing?
  • F-Zero?
  • New Mario and Luigi?

These games are not confirm, but in the near future could be in development due to high demand. Now, here’s are a list of some games that were announced for the Switch, but could be released for the Switch 2:

  • Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
  • Guilty Gear Strive
  • Ravenswatch
  • Strania: The Stella Machica EX
  • Laika: Aged Through Blood
  • Wizandry: The Five Ordeals

  • Amber Isle
  • On Your Tail

Pokemon Legends Z-A, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond and Professor Layton and New World of Stream most likely will be Switch 2 exclusives due to them not having an exact date of when they’re suppose to be release along with the online services retaining the same as it was on the Nintendo Switch.
